Dear Friends, my last blog Wholesome World talked a bit about how we’re running this earth to the ground, there are many times a year when consumerism takes over us. Easter is one of these times.
I’m not saying we shouldn’t celebrate Easter, we definitely should, but for what reasons have we begun to celebrate? All you hear is, I can’t wait for Easter, I can’t wait to see what I get in my Easter Basket.
In Creating Christmas I’d spoken of this a bit as well. Our traditions, how we spend our money, and our time truthfully both do show a bit of where our heart lies. What type of Tradition has Easter become?
Easter Baskets used to be small little things that held a few gems. Nowadays the baskets are huge and often you’ll see photos of presents off to the side. Or the new and adorable upside-down umbrella filled with goods.
We’ve never done a basket and probably never will, we get our kids 1 bag of candy, and 1 activity, this way they are getting something on Easter. It also gives them something to sit and do over the weekend. Some years we may toss in a gift of something they need.
Do the Easter Egg Hunt, Do the Easter Baskets! But what more can we do…could we cut our budget for Easter in half and give to a place in our community that is in need? Could we bring our children to volunteer somewhere?
Easter Epiphany
The Easter Bunny is a cute cuddly creature, and Santa Claus is a warm and inviting Grandpa-looking dude.
Jesus was born from a virgin, lived 3 decades on this earth free of sin, then willingly died on the cross for the sins of the WHOLE WORLD, and then 3 days later… was resurrected from the dead.
Talk about a real-life event that changed the world. Where is his photo? Where does his image get displayed?
It’s taken down and put into a storage closet somewhere. It’s hushed in schools and the hearts of many within this world.
Some may say they know Jesus, do you just know of Him, or do you truly know Him, does the reflection of Him show in your daily life? Are we living up to His greatest gift?
He died on the cross, so that we may live. How are we living?
To have an epiphany means to have an illuminating discovery or realization…
It’s all about Jesus. He is the key to everything. We need to edit him back into Easter.
Edit him right back into our lives. If you’ve put Jesus in a closet, a box, into the deep dark places of your heart and or mind. Go dig for him. Find where you put Him. Pick up a bible and listen to what he says:
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15:5
This is a Holiday in which Jesus was crucified, died, and was buried, so that we may live.
Lord Lead me to the Cross. In the hope that I may truly find you again, and again. Daily.
