Sem Life – Week 1

Feeling all the feels.
Week 1  should maybe be titled: From lockdown through the first 7 days in a new place.  However, that title is extremely long.  Here is the story all about how the whole world’s life got flipped turned upside down (thank you, fresh prince). During the pandemic (the flip) Everyone stays Home (upside down, one can only stay indoors so long)

For us, it was a blessing. Jason had taken a week’s vacation to begin to prep us for our move and put the house on the market. He did the bathroom remodel then headed back to work a whole 3 days before “the order”.

Honestly, I don’t know if everything would have come together for our family without it. Homeschooling was…Homeschool Moms, I will forever think of you! Flash forward to finishing the house just in time to list, listing twice (closing date is July 15th 🙏).

Hurdle 1: took FOREVER.

Hurdle 2: Packing with 6 people under 1 roof, insert emotions spiking with 4+ weeks to go.
Joanna also chose the lockdown to now to get 6 and counting teeth which she wakes twice a night.
Back to emotions, all 6 were at highs/lows daily and at different times.
If you saw us on paper possibly we would be a musical score set to play a scene of suspense, chaos, calm, and peace all at one time.
Packing was being done around mom being back to work, our last few goodbyes, school up until the last 7 days, and general life still going on around us. We were busy every moment.

Hurdle 3: the drive. “6 hours” is more like 9 or 10 with our size family. We left at 10 am and pulled in at 8 Michigan time, 7 MO time with 7 minutes to spare in getting our home keys. We are greeted by friends Cindy and Dave and new friends to unload the big stuff and get beds in for the first night.  Day 2 unpacking returning Uhaul running errands.

Day 3 Jason started work on the 24th.
Day 5 Dryer breaks.

Day 8 (today) is my last day off before heading to my new store and back to work.  The kids have been outside playing all day every day with new friends. They beg to go outside at 6 am so clearly we love our new friends! But we still are adjusting to a new normal with no real routine right now.  So our emotions still come like a wave often. Jo is clingy, kids wait to take all of their emotions out on one another vs working them out as they go. Mom is trying to be organized enough to not feel chaotic with the work return. And Papa is excited and nervous about summer Greek and the kick-off of his next 4 years…He has been hard at work prepping apartments for rent at his new maintenance job. We made it!

We are in it now! Experiencing the new, experiencing God at work in a big way. Now is the time we embrace the journey he has in store!
