The Parable of the Four Soils

Matthew 13:14-15

In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:

” ‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, Hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.’

Matthew 13:16-23 tells of the 4 types of soil which I will try to paint in a nutshell.

Soil 1: the seed is sown along the path. (Basically, soil that’s been spilled or possibly spread without anything to attach itself to grow)

Meaning you may hear about God but not understand what’s being said to you. Before you have the chance to absorb it the devil will knock it down to keep it from getting to your heart.

Soil 2: the seed that falls among the rocks. (May make it into the ground but still won’t have roots to attach itself to for survival)

Meaning you hear the word of the Lord and you receive it with Joy. However, if you experience any trouble or pain even if you are reading the word of the Lord, you may not be strong enough to believe in what God’s timing is or means and fall away from the Lord.

Soil 3: the seed that falls among thorns. (is choked out before it’s given the chance to grow)

Meaning you may hear the word. Yet: the worries of this life or desire/want of things such as wealth may keep you from pursuing the word. You’d choose the riches of this world versus knowing Jesus and his heavenly riches.

Soil 4: the seed that falls on good soil (is the place to be!)

Meaning you hear the word and understand it. From it, you produce a crop aka grow from taking root in the word of God. You water your garden and care for it. Aka you read the word and pray, and have a connection. You try.

Where are you today what soil do you fall under?

How has God’s word taken root in your life?

I’ve gone down every soil’s path. But the happiest I’ve ever been in life is when I’m living on the ground of soil 4.

We are human different seasons produce different crops you can unfortunately bounce from soil to soil. But the longer you live in the land of the 4th soil the easier it is to stay planted there 😉
